He won the 1957 election in the St Albans electorate in 1957. He was defeated in the 1960 election.[2]
He was the Mayor of Christchurch from 1971 to 1974.
Pickering Courts, a council housing project in St Albans designed for the elderly containing 25 units built in 1978 was named in his honour.[1]
