Notable_instruments = GuitarsJustin Broadrick (born on
15 August 1969 inBirmingham, England ) is a British singer, songwriter, guitarist and drummer. He is best known as a founding member of the bandGodflesh , one of the first bands to combine elements ofextreme metal andindustrial music .Biography
Broadrick was born in the council estates of inner
Birmingham . [ [http://www.godflesh.com/articles/untarticles.html] ] His first musical project was Final. Initially beginning as a punk band (albeit with drum machine) in 1982, he released his first demo at age 11. [ [http://www.decibelmagazine.com/features/mar2007/justinbroadrick.aspx] ] The project developed to embrace thepower electronics subgenre ofindustrial music in 1983, releasing material on his own Post Mortem Rekordings cassette label. The project was abandoned in July 1985.Ben Green and Paul Neville founded Fall of Because in 1982 and later asked Justin to play with them. Unlike Napalm Death, Justin played drums and vocals, not guitar. Among the songs written, "Life is Easy", "Mighty Trust Krusher", and "Merciless" existed in primitive forms. They released a demo in 1986 called Extirpate, but dwindled shortly after. In 1999, the Life is Easy record finally came out, which gathered both studio and live material from that time period.
Broadrick was asked by
Nicholas Bullen to joinNapalm Death as guitarist in July 1985, and appeared on the A-side of the band's debut album, "Scum". He played with the group until October 1986 when he was offered a position as drummer ofHead of David .After leaving
Head of David in 1988, he began the projectGodflesh which went on to record forEarache Records .Godflesh disbanded in 2002 (soon after the departure of fellow founding member G. Christian Green), and Broadrick entered a period of hiatus until his return with the Jesu project. He also revived theFinal project at this time.During his career, Broadrick has maintained a number of temporary side projects, particularly collaborations with Kevin Martin. These include
Techno Animal andCurse of the Golden Vampire ; Broadrick also worked with Martin's groups God and Ice.He has also maintained a parallel career as a producer, producing records and remixes for groups such as
Pantera , Isis, and Hydra Head labelmates Pelican. In 2007, Broadrick began to release limited runs of material on his Avalanche Inc. label including new material by the
Final project. He turned down offers to join highly visible rock groups such as
Faith No More and Danzig ( [http://www.decibelmagazine.com/features/jan2007/glenndanzig.aspx interview with Glenn Danzig] ).In 2008, Justin collaborated with former
Swans VocalistJarboe , providing production for her latest album, titled "J2".He now resides in the quiet countryside town of
Abergele ,Wales .Discography
