Higashi, Tokyo

Higashi is a residential district of the Shibuya ward in Tokyo surrounded by the prime residential areas of Hiroo, Ebisu, Daikanyama Aoyama and Minami Aoyama.

Notable buildings

*Although primarily a residential and embassy district, Higashi houses the famed Liquid room venue [ [http://www.lonelyplanet.com/worldguide/destinations/asia/japan/tokyo/night/ Tokyo Nightlife, Bars, Pubs, Clubs - Lonely Planet Travel Guide ] ] - launch pad for many serious Japanese and Western bands, DJs, and musicians into the Japan music scene.

Universities

The main campus of the Kokugakuin University is in Higashi.

*Shibuya campus:All law and Shinto studies students, as well as 3rd and 4th year literature and economics students populate the Shibuya campus.:Closest station is Shibuya station on the Yamanote line.:Currently under redevelopment, in May of 2006, construction finished on the 18 story Symbol Tower. 　 Following that, construction will continue with the media building. The redevelopment project is planned to finish within 2008. At the end of January, 2006, it was decided that the name of the main building, which is currently in development, will be Wakagi Tower (若木タワー, Wakagi Tawā).
