Frøya, Norway

Frøya, Norway

Two locations in Norway are named "Frøya". Even though the name is exactly the same with the name of the Norse Goddess Frøya (Freya), the islands seem to be named after her brother, Frøy (Frey), as interpretted by professional Norwegian name researchers.Facts|date=December 2007 But Frey and Freya are a pair of deities whose names were derived from the same root (their names mean Lord and Lady respectively, and the word originally has the meaning of "leading" or "foremost").
