It is a deliciously spicy Konkani recipe for a gravy base to which one can add any type of
pulses . The main ingredients are coconut, dried red chillies and tamarind. The tamarind balances the spiciness of the red chillies. It is typically served with plain steamed rice and is a main dish in any Konkani weddings.Recipe
Ingredients
*Boiled and de-skinned Navy beans ("Avre") 1 to 1/2 cups
*Shredded Coconut 3/4 cup
*Tamarind 1/2 teaspoon
*Dried Red chilies 4-5
*1/2 tsp Turmeric
*8 Garlic cloves
*Coconut oil 1 tablespoon
*Salt"Cook the navy beans with 2 cups water in the cooker. Remove the skin from all the beans.""Grind coconut, dried red chilies, tamarind and turmeric together to a fine paste.""Add the ground paste and salt to the cooked navy beans. Bring it to boil. ""Crush the garlic cloves. Heat little oil and fry the garlic cloves till they turn brownish in color. Add this to the dish and close the lid.""Serve as a side dish with hot steamed rice,
