- Common Cause Partnership
"The Common Cause Partnership" is an
Anglican college of bishops in theUnited States andCanada who have unified to create a "separate ecclesiastical structure" [http://www.acn-us.org/archive/2007/09/anglican-bishops-take-first-steps-to-new-structure.html] in their countries, that is, separate from theEpiscopal Church in the United States of America (TEC) andAnglican Church of Canada . This meeting, from the American perspective, comes especially in reaction to perception that the Episcopal Church has not met demands of theWindsor Report , by the time of the September 30, 2007 deadline set by the February 2007Anglican Communion Primates' Meeting in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. This idea is reflected in a statement made by The Most Rev.Peter Akinola , Primate of Nigeria. They declared, "We intend a founding constitutional convention for an Anglican union."
51 Bishops representing more than 600 congregations were present for the creation of the new partnership. Some of the bishops present were foreign bishops, including a retired archbishop. [http://www.virtueonline.org/portal/modules/news/article.php?storyid=6797]
