The brand name abas Business Software includes the products abas ERP for production, abas Distribution for wholesale, distribution and service companies, and the eBusiness solution abas eB. abas Business Software runs on both the Linux and Windows operating systems. ABAS has supported the open source operating system Linux since 1995, with approximately 80% of over 2,000 abas installations being Linux-based.
Available functions include: Quotes/sales order processing/shipping; Purchasing/purchase order processing; Warehouse management; Scheduling; Logistics; Materials management/MRP; Production/PPC; Financial accounting; Fixed asset accounting; Cost accounting; Controlling; eBusiness, etc.
Software Architecture
abas Business Software uses a tiered software architecture. The software’s foundation is the object-oriented database. The application tier is based on the database and contains the software’s core functions. The presentation tier, or "Flexible User Interface (FOP)", comprises the third and final tier, which interfaces with the user. The "Individual User Interface", the "Standard Flexible User Interface" and the "abas Tools" all belong to the presentation tier.
Database Tier (abas system base)
An object-oriented database, the objected-oriented programming languages C, C++ and Java, along with the Linux and Windows operating systems, all form the database tier.
Application Tier (abas core functions)
The application tier comprises the following core functions: purchasing, sales, scheduling, materials management and accounting.
Flexible User Interface (FOP)
Customer-specific adaptations are carried out using the flexible user interface "FOP", which consists of the "Individual User Interface", the "Flexible Standard User Interface" and the "abas Tools".
Individual user interface
The functions, data, evaluations or dialogs which are company-specific, and not included in the standard software, are created in the individual user interface and integrated into the complete system.
Flexible standard user interface
The flexible standard user interface contains an extensive range of functions which are generally required for business operations such as: lists, forms, screens, menus, data and instant evaluations. The user selects the functions he requires.
Tools
The abas Tools are object-oriented. Both the "Flexible Standard User Interface" and the "Individual User Interface" are created using such tools as list generator, menu generator and screen generator. You can also create links to other software applications using the abas Tools, as well as link abas Business Software to external IT systems using interfaces.
Tool Applications
The FOP program interface provides numerous tools for:
Expanding the user interface (e.g.)
* Printing documents
* Database queries
* Database expansion options
* Event-driven flexible user interface programming (EFOP)
* Displaying diagrams (charts)
* Screen generator
* Menu generator
* Help generatorCommunication with external systems (e.g.)
* Browser output
* Database loader
* Database queries
* EDP / ODBC / JDBC interface
* DDE interface
* ActiveX
* MultiSite
* Java APICustomizations
abas Tools can perform the following customizations to the user interface:
* Database access and queries
* Creation of documents and forms
* Creating user-defined screens
* Creating user-defined functions which are then integrated into the standard screen
* Customized buttons
* User-defined data checks in screens
* Calling external programs
* Integration of the automatic data processing from external programs
* Creating user-defined user menus
* Individual help textsYou can integrate your user-defined adjustments into the software by using the abas Business Software tools. User-defined evaluations can be run directly from menus. It is also possible to call functions, information, and evaluations in the screen dialog. All events which occur during a screen dialog can be linked to any number of own actions.
Java programming
Customizations made to abas Business Software can be programmed either with the FOP language or with Java. Java is especially suited for Internet applications and abas installations with heterogeneous computer networks.
Employing the most up-to-date worldwide standards, complex user requirements can be implemented efficiently with Java. Library modules or ready-made Java components, many of which are available on the Internet, can be integrated into abas Business Software. All options in the extensive Java libraries are available. Using the Java interface, access to databases, report generators, the user interface and dialogs is also possible.
