Hillsboro is a town in Caroline County, Maryland, United States. The population was 163 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Hillsboro is located at coor dms|38|54|59|N|75|56|29|W|city (38.916284, -75.941354)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.1 square miles (0.4 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 163 people, 71 households, and 45 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,140.6 people per square mile (449.5/km²). There were 78 housing units at an average density of 545.8/sq mi (215.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.16% White, 1.23% African American, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.61% of the population.

There were 71 households out of which 29.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.6% were non-families. 29.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.30 and the average family size was 2.71.

In the town the population was spread out with 20.9% under the age of 18, 9.8% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 23.3% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 94.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.0 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $29,583, and the median income for a family was $35,500. Males had a median income of $29,167 versus $20,000 for females. The per capita income for the town was $16,318. None of the families and 9.5% of the population were living below the poverty line, including no under eighteens and 11.1% of those over 64.
