Though chiefly a poet of supreme stature, Mr.Chakrabarty also kept wowing his readers with crime-fiction such as 'Chosmar Arale', 'Aekti Hotyar Antorale', 'Shyamnibas Rahosso', 'Bishangorer Sona', 'Mukundopurer Monsa','Arale ache Kalicharan' etc.
Awards
He won the Sahitya Academy Award in 1974 for the book of poems Ulanga Raja (The Naked King).
He served as the editor of Anandamela, a very popular children's magazine. He has long been associated with Bangla Academy. He loves playing Bridge and traveling.
AMALKANTI is a 35mm format short film based on a poem by Nirendranath Chakravarthi, directed by ARK Reepon made by the Group-B students of 2nd Advance Film Appreciation Course 2007-08, Bangladesh Film Archive. [2]
