Birger A. Pearson (b. 1934 in
California ,USA ) is an American scholar studyingearly Christianity andGnosticism . He currently holds the positions ofProfessor Emeritus of Religious Studies at theUniversity of California, Santa Barbara and Professor and Interim Director of the Religious Studies Program at theUniversity of California, Berkeley . He has aB.A. inClassical Languages fromUpsala College in East Orange,New Jersey ; aBachelor of Divinity in Biblical Studies and Theology fromPacific Lutheran Theological Seminary in Berkeley, CA; an M.A. in Greek from the University of California, Berkeley; and aPh.D. in New Testament and Christian Origins fromHarvard University in Cambridge,Massachusetts .
