Mikhail Jurowski

Mikhail Vladimirowitsch Jurowski (Russian _ru. Михаил Владимирович Юровский) (born 25 December 1945) is an Russian conductor.

Jurowski was born in Moscow, the son of composer Wladimir Jurowski (1915-1972). For twenty-four years he was the assistant to Gennady Rozhdestvensky Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra. After his studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Lev Solomonovich Ginzburg (1907-1981) and Alexey Ivanovich Kandinsky, he worked at Moscow's Stanislawski- and Bolshoi Theaters. In 1990 he left Russian for Germany. From 1992 to 1997 Jurowski was music director and principal conductor of the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Herford. Then from 1999, intendant of the Volkstheaters der Hansestadt Rostock as well as Norddeutschen Philharmonie am Volkstheater Rostock and also guest conductor of Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin.

Juroswki also was active in Scandinavia with the orchestras in Malmö, Odense, and Copenhagen. In Argentina with Orquesta Filarmónica de Buenos Aires im Teatro Colón, and from 1999-2001 he was principal conductor of the Oper Leipzig. Since 1 January 2006 he has been principal director of the WDR Rundfunk orchestra.

Jurowski's son Vladimir (b.1972) is currently the chief conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. His youngest son Dmitri Jurowski (b.1979) is also an international conductor and considered as one of conducting´s outstanding, most promising new talents.

Jurowski lives in Berlin. He is married with three children Vladimir, Maria and Dmitri.
