Hussey Crespigny Vivian, 3rd Baron Vivian, GCMG, CB, DL, FRGS (
19 June 1834 ,Connaught Place, London –21 October 1893 ,Rome ) was a Britishdiplomat .Vivian was the eldest son of
Charles Vivian, 2nd Baron Vivian and was educated atEton College . In 1851, he became a clerk in theForeign Office , later travelling toParis withGeorge Villiers, 4th Earl of Clarendon in 1856 for the signing of the Treaty of Paris and withJohn Campbell, 2nd Marquess of Breadalbane toBerlin in 1861, to invest William I of Prussia with theOrder of the Garter . In 1864, he was sent toAthens with a draft treaty for the transfer of theIonian Islands toGreece and became a senior clerk in the Foreign Office in 1869.In 1873, Vivian was sent to
Alexandria asConsul-General , transferred toBucharest a year later and returned to Alexandria in 1876, where he was appointed a CB. He was sent toBern in 1879,Copenhagen in 1881 andBrussels in 1884, where was appointed a KCMG. Succeeding to his father's title in 1886, he was later promoted to GCMG for his services to theslave trade conference in Brussels in 1889. His final and highest position was toRome in 1892, where he remained until he died frompneumonia in 1893. The Prince of Naples was present at his funeral.Family
