According to the
United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 5.0square mile s (13.0km² ), of which, 4.0 square miles (10.5 km²) of it is land and 1.0 square miles (2.6 km²) of it (19.88%) is water.Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 6,540 people, 2,286 households, and 1,748 families residing in the CDP. Thepopulation density was 1,620.1 people per square mile (625.0/km²). There were 2,385 housing units at an average density of 590.8/sq mi (227.9/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 55.23% White, 41.51% African American, 0.32% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.19% from other races, and 1.24% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.53% of the population.There were 2,286 households out of which 43.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.3% were married couples living together, 21.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.5% were non-families. 18.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.27.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 30.5% under the age of 18, 8.9% from 18 to 24, 34.3% from 25 to 44, 18.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 94.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.4 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $34,704, and the median income for a family was $37,772. Males had a median income of $30,972 versus $21,418 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $14,091. About 9.1% of families and 12.4% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 13.7% of those under age 18 and 14.1% of those age 65 or over.References
