- Taldom
Taldom ( _ru. Талдом) is a town in the northern part of
Moscow Oblast ,Russia , situated 110 km north ofMoscow , on a suburban railway connecting Moscow toSavyolovo . It is the administrative centre ofTaldomsky District . The settlement was founded in 1677. In 1918 it received town status and became the first town to be renamed toLeninsk in honour of the firstPremier of the Soviet Union Vladimir Lenin (while Lenin was alive). In 1929 the town was renamed back to its original name. Population: 13,334 (2002 Census); 14,410 (1989 Census).In the proximity of Taldom there is the
Taldom transmitter , the most powerful broadcasting station in the world. It is alongwave transmitter working on the frequency of 261 kHz with transmitting power of 2,500 kilowatts. The height of the transmitter's mast is 275 meters. The programs of "Radio of Russia" and "Yunost" radio stations are broadcast from there.
