The festival
The Fresh Film Festival's main aim is to encourage young people to make films. The festival screens a number of feature films and hosts workshops.
The jury
Ireland's Young Film-maker of the Year is judged by a number of film and education professionals and the 1st and 2nd prize winners at the previous years competition.
Festival 2008
The 11th Fresh Film Festival featuring Ireland’s Young Filmmaker of the Year Awards took place in Limerick between the 3rd and the 9th of March, 2008. This year’s Festival Programme programme included feature screenings and animation and cinematography workshops. Feature screenings included the film noir style, teen drama/murder mystery, ‘Brick’, directed by Rian Johnson, the Irish Premiere of ‘Buddha Collapsed out of Shame’, from 20 year old Iranian director Hana Makhmalbaf and Christian Wagners’ drama, detailing a Bosnian mothers search for her daughter after the war, entitled ‘Warchild’.
The Young Film-Maker Awards divided into two age categories: Junior (7 –12 yrs) and Senior (13 -18yrs) had an entry of over 120 films from young people from across the island of Ireland.The 2008 Senior Award went to 'Alien Verbatim' by Laurence Snashall from Schull, Co. Cork, the Radharc Documentary Award: 'Sneakers' from Patrickswell National School, Limerick. The Junior Award went to Geallscoil Ultain, Co. Monaghan, for their film ‘Ruairi’, and the Brown Bag Animation award went to the the Sacred Heart School, Portlaoise for ‘The Last Penguin’.Venues were the Belltable Arts Centre and Storm Cinemas, Castletroy, Limerick.
