Early life
Vanden Heuvel was born in
New York City, New York , the daughter ofJean Stein , a best-selling author and editor, andWilliam vanden Heuvel , an attorney, former diplomat, businessman and author. Her maternal grandparents wereMusic Corporation of America founderJules C. Stein and Doris Babbette Jones (originally Jonas).
