In 1993, Jennifer K Dick moved to France for the first time, but it was only after returning to Paris following her MFA in 1999 that Dick became involved with a burgeoning young North American writing scene including Joe Ross, Lisa Pasold (Canadian), Barbara Beck, and George Vance. These young American authors also benefitted from the support and advice of established poets living in Paris such as
Marilyn Hacker ,Alice Notley ,Ellen Hinsey , Denis Hirson, orCole Swensen . (Recent young authors emerging from these continuing ties or making themselves temporary or permanent members of this community over the past decade have included Nicholas Manning (Australia), Claire Potter (Australia), Rufo Quintavalle (UK:USA),Laura Solomon (USA), Ethan Gilsdorf (USA),Andrew Zawacki (USA), Shrikanth Reddy (USA), Sandy Florian (USA) and others.)In 1999, Dick also became editor in chief for the international literature and arts review "Upstairs at Duroc" (issues 2-6) [http://www.wice-paris.org/courses/creative/upstairs-duroc.html] in Paris and thus met American poet and translator Michelle Noteboom (author of "Edging", Cracked Slab Books, 2005 [http://crackedslabbooks.com/] ). Vance, Noteboom, Beck and Dick formed a four-voice poetry performance group called "Quadriphonics" which drew a full house at each of their events.
In 2005, Dick and Noteboom co-founded IVY Writers [http://www.ivywritersparis.blogspot.com/] series in Paris Ivy Writers promotes exchange between authors from France and primarily the USA with monthly readings for the public. These performances bring together prominent poets from various countries who work primarily in an experimental vein of writing.
At IVY, authors read in their native language accompanied by a short selection of translations. On occasion, readings have been accompanied by performances or video and photo projections, such as by Argentinian author and visual artist Susana Sulic [http://www.indigo-cf.com/~pf302183/f/auteur.php?auteur_id=72] who writes in a trilingual mix of French, Spanish and English.
