Ryan Mallett (born June 5, 1988 in Texarkana, Texas) is an American football quarterback at the University of Arkansas. High school career

Mallett graduated from Texas High School and was ranked as the #2 quarterback and #4 overall player in the nation by Rivals.com. He was also the Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas in 2006. Mallett participated in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in 2007 and won the Glenn Davis Army Award as the best player on the West team.

College career

2007

Mallett made his first appearance at Michigan in the second game of the 2007 season against Oregon. He entered the game for the injured Chad Henne in the third quarter and completed 6 of 17 passes for 49 yards and 1 interception. Mallett started again the next week against Notre Dame. He helped lead the Wolverines to a 38-0 victory by throwing 3 touchdown passes. He went 7/15 (46.7%) with 90 yards. Mallett started his first Big Ten conference game against Penn State the following week. He went 16/29 (55.2%) with 170 yards and 1 interception. He also scored on a 10-yard rush in the 1st quarter. Henne started the Wolverines' next three games. In those games, Mallett had limited playing time. In all he went 4/10 for 30 yards.

Mallett's next start was against Minnesota. He threw 1 touchdown pass and went 11/20 (55.0%) with 233 yards and no interceptions. Mallett started again the next week against Wisconsin. He threw 3 touchdown passes and went 11/36 (30.6%) with 245 yards and two interceptions. In the fourth quarter Mallett threw a 97 yard touchdown pass to Mario Manningham which is the longest pass completion in Michigan history. Mallett played very little in the next week's game against Ohio State. He threw three passes and completed one of them for eight yards.

Departure from Michigan

Mallett confirmed on January 9 that he was leaving the University of Michigan. Mallett's departure from Michigan was widely expected after new head coach Rich Rodriguez was hired to replace retiring coach Lloyd Carr. Rodriguez plans to overhaul Michigan's offense and install a "spread" offensive scheme. A spread offense is designed around the skill set of the quarterback and there are many variations of the spread offense, but despite efforts by Rodriguez (who had run pocket passer-oriented spread offenses at previous jobs) to convince Mallett of this fact Mallett decided to leave Michigan.

On February 2 the website PleaseMallettstay.com was officially deleted. However before it was officially deleted it was confirmed that the website recorded over 402,594 stay requests, and the hard site address received over 92,000 letters signed by petitioners requesting him to stay at Michigan.

On January 14, Mallett enrolled at the University of Arkansas, where he will redshirt for the 2008 season under new head coach Bobby Petrino

Arkansas

On January 11, Mallett met with Arkansas' new head coach Bobby Petrino to discuss transferring. On January 14, Mallett transferred to the University of Arkansas, where he will redshirt for the 2008 season, and on January 17 he enrolled in classes.
