- HMS Cleopatra (1915)
HMS "Cleopatra" was a C-class
light cruiser of theRoyal Navy . She was part of the "Caroline" group of the C-class of cruisers.She was laid down in February 1914, launched
14 January 1915 and commissioned into the navy in June 1915. On the outbreak of war she was assigned to the 5th Light Cruiser Squadron,Harwich Force , guarding the eastern approaches to theEnglish Channel . On the night of the 23 to the 24th of March 1916 "Cleopatra" rammed and sunk the German destroyer "G 194", but was subsequently damaged in a collision with HMS "Undaunted". On4 August 1916 "Cleopatra" struck a mine off theBelgian coast and had to be repaired. After repairs, she was assigned to the 7th Light Cruiser Squadron of theGrand Fleet in 1918. She survived the war, but was considered obsolete before the outbreak of theSecond World War and was sold for scrap onJune 26 ,1931 to Hughes Bolckow, ofBlyth .References
