George Every (
3 February 1909 - 2003) was a British historian, theologian and writer onChristian mythology , and poet.He was a member of the Anglican religious community, the
Society of the Sacred Mission atKelham ,Nottinghamshire from 1929 to 1973. He then joined theRoman Catholic College at Oscott.He was known as a historian of
Byzantium . He was in some ways a follower ofChristopher Dawson .He encountered
T. S. Eliot at Kelham, and introduced him to the history ofLittle Gidding , later to be the title for one of Eliot's "Four Quartets ", through his draftverse play "Stalemate at Little Gidding". Every also corresponded withC. S. Lewis andYves Congar , and wrote on the work ofCharles Williams .Works
