Heinrich Julius is the youngest child of Ernest Augustus IV, Prince of Hanover (1914-1987) and his first wife Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg (1925-1980).

Prince Heinrich Julius of Hanover was in a relationship with cabaret artist Désirée Nick (born 30 September 1960 in Berlin). Their brief union produced his first son:
* "Oskar" Heinrich Julius Ferdinand Nick Hanover (born 29 September 1996 in Berlin).
