Sense-National Deafblind and Rubella Association

Sense-National Deafblind and Rubella Association

Sense National Deafblind and Rubella Association Sense is a national charity in the United Kingdom that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind. It provides specialist information, advice and services to deafblind people, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them. In addition, it supports people who have sensory impairments with additional disabilities.

Services that the charity provides include help for families, day services where deafblind people can build confidence and learn new skills, and Sense-run houses in the community – where people are supported to live as independently as possible. Sense communicator-guides offer a vital lifeline to deafblind people living in their own homes. And it provides specialist advice, for example on education options and assistive technology.

Founded in 1955, Sense works with deafblind people and their families. It set up services where they are needed, campaigns vigorously for change and as a result built a worldwide reputation for their pioneering work.

Sense is a member of the Learning Disability Coalition, a group of 10 charities which campaigns for better funding for social care for people with learning disabilities in England.
