It includes the town of Siechnice, but the gmina takes its name from, and has its seat in, the village of Święta Katarzyna. (The only other urban-rural gmina in Poland to have its seat in a village rather than its town is Gmina Nowe Skalmierzyce.)

Święta Katarzyna lies approximately convert|12|km|mi|0 south-east of the county and regional capital, Wrocław. The town of Siechnice is about 2 km east of Święta Katarzyna.

The gmina covers an area of convert|98.57|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 13,552 (out of which the urban population – the population of Siechnice – is 3,851, while the population of the rural part of the gmina is 9,701).
