List of British places with Latin names

This is a list of British places with Latin names.

During the Middle Ages many places in Great Britain acquired Latin names, knowledge of which is important when studying the history of a period when many documents were written in Latin. Sometimes the Latin name was the same as the name that had been used in Roman times, sometimes it was quite different, and very often there was no Roman name, as many places only came into existence after the Romans had left.

Against each modern English placename is shown the classical name — that is the name (if any) current in the Roman Empire, followed by any mediaeval or later Latin names. Where possible, the source of each Latin name should be indicated.
