Craven Council election, 1999

The 1999 Craven Council election took place on 6 May 1999 to elect members of Craven District Council in North Yorkshire, England. One third of the council was up for election and the Conservative party gained overall control of the council from no overall control.[1]

Before the election the Conservatives needed to gain 5 seats in order to gain a majority on the council.[2] They made two gains when they were the only party to put up candidates in Cowling and Skipton Central wards, which had previously been held by Labour and the Liberal Democrats respectively.[2] Meanwhile Labour only put up one candidate in the election in Skipton South.[2] The results saw the Conservatives make a net gain of 6 seats to regain overall control of the council that they had lost in 1995.[3][4]
