Dr. George I. Davida is an American
computer scientist andcryptographer . He is an outspoken proponent of public access to cryptography and an opponent of variousNSA andUS federal government policies and initiatives like theClipper chip , a stance dating back to his 1977 reception of agag order from the NSA under theInvention Secrecy Act relating to apatent application for astream cipher device [http://jya.com/pp09.htm] using research funded by aNational Science Foundation grant. He is formerly of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at theUniversity of Iowa .
