Flanders Moss

Flanders Moss

Flanders Moss is an area of bogland in the Carse of Stirling in central Scotland.

It lies between the villages of Thornhill to the north and Kippen to the south.

Formerly passable with difficulty, using boardwalks, during the 18th century much drainage of the land was encouraged by the lawyer, historian and improver Henry Home, Lord Kames but a substantial portion survived this development.

Flanders Moss is the largest raised bog in the UK to remain in a predominantly near-natural state and is designated as a National Nature Reserve.
