the Stirling council area ofScotland . It is located on the A811 about 12 miles west ofStirling and is one of the smallest community council areas inStirlingshire with a population of about 200.Arnprior gets its name from the Gaelic 'earrann' meaning a division of land and in this case the Prior of Inchmahome owned the land. Walter Comyn, the Earl of Menteith, founded the Priory in 1238 so the name could be that old. There are other ‘Arns’ in Arnprior and the surrounding area. Some indicate size (e.g. Arnmore) and others indicate previous owners (e.g. Arnfinlay).
Arnprior is located next door to the
Flanders Moss National Nature Reserve and close to the east boundary of theLoch Lomond andTrossachs National Park which includes theLake of Menteith .
