Richard Lawrence 'Larry' Carp (born

A long-time advocate for reform inMissouri Democratic politics, he was the Democratic nominee for Congress from the 2nd congressional district in 1960, losing to Republicanincumbent Thomas B. Curtis in thegeneral election ; and acandidate for the Democratic nomination for MissouriState Treasurer in 1972, losing theprimary election to Dr. James Spainhower, who was elected to the office in thegeneral election . Dr. Carp later went on to head the Missourichapter ofCommon Cause . While in law school he became a member of thePhi Delta Phi fraternity. Prior to going into private practice he worked for the U. S.Department of State and then was Associate Counsel for the U. S. SenateSubcommittee on Constitutional Rights. Dr. Carp holds memberships in theBar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (formerchairman , Immigration Law Committee; former vice chairman, Immigration and Nationality Committee); theSt. Louis County Bar Association ; theAmerican Bar Association ; theAmerican Immigration Lawyers Association ; and the Missouri Bar. He is aFellow of theAmerican Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and wasTreasurer of its Missouri Chapter. (An Hispanic Organization). During the final year of theClinton Administration he was a Presidential Appointee as Senior Adviser and U. S. PublicDelegate to the 55th session of theUnited Nations General Assembly . He currently is on the Board of Trustees of the Academy of Science of St. Louis and theBoard of Directors of the St. Louis Center for International Relations, and is an Adviser to the Ethiopian Community Association of St. Louis.
