Jennifer Tipton (b. Sept. 11, 1937 Columbus, OH, USA) is an award-winning
lighting designer . She has designed many types of shows including ballets, plays, and musical productions. In 1958, she graduated fromCornell University . [http://www.news.cornell.edu/chronicle/98/10.29.98/Tipton.html] In 1977, she won aTony Award for Best Lighting Design for lightingAndrei Serban 's production of "The Cherry Orchard " and won the same award again in 1989 for lighting "Jerome Robbins' Broadway ". She is well known for her designs for dance as well as for her many years as instructor for lighting at the Yale School of Drama. Choreographers she has worked with includeMikhail Baryshnikov , Jiri Kylian, Dana Reitz,Jerome Robbins , Paul Taylor,Twyla Tharp , and Dan Wagoner. She designed the lighting for Baryshnikov's production of "The Nutcracker ", both for the stage and for television. In January 2008, Tipton designed a large lighting display for theExperimental Media and Performing Arts Center atRensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. It was her first non-theatrical installation.
