Mitr Phol Sugar Corp is Thailand's and Asia's biggest sugar and bioenergy producer.

Mitr Phol Sugar Corp is a privately-owned group of companies, mainly owned by the Vongkusolkit family. As of 2011, Mitr Phol is ranked as the world's fifth largest sugar producer, and the largest producer in Asia. It is Thailand's largest sugar producer and the second largest in China through its joint venture company East Asia Sugar. In addition to Thailand and China, Mitr Phol has operations and investments in Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam and most recently Australia. Its key business units include Sugar, Ethanol, Biomass Energy, Fiberboards, Logistics and Paper.

Within Thailand, Mitr Phol has five sugar mills, with a total production capacity of 130,500 tons of sugar cane daily. All mills have refineries attached and produce white sugar. The locations are:

  • Suphanburi province ('Mitr Phol mill")
  • Singburi province ("Singburi mill")
  • Chaiyaphum province ("Mitr Phu Khieo mill")
  • Khon Kaen province ("Mitr Phu Viang mill")
  • Kalasin province ("Kalasin mill")

The yearly capacity is about 13 million tons, yielding sugar output of approximately 1.4 million tons per year. Construction for a sixth mill in Loei province began in 2011.

Mitr Phol's subsidiary company Petro Green Co. Ltd. has 4 ethanol plants with total capacity of 800,000 liters per day located in Suphanburi, Chaiyaphum, Kalasin and Tak provinces. Molasses, which is a waste product from the production of sugar, is used as feedstock to produce ethanol which is mainly used for blending in fuel as gasohol. Petro Green is Thailand's largest ethanol producer and exporter.

Another Mitr Phol subsidiary is Bio-Energy Co. Ltd. which has runs several biomass power plants attached to the sugar mills. These plants burn the fiber residue from crushed sugar cane called bagasses in order to power steam turbines to generate all the power needed for the mill. Excess electricity is produced and sold to the national power grid.

A third subsidiary company, Panel Plus Co. Ltd., manufacturers particle boards and MDF (medium density fiberboard) from bagasses and rubberwood chips. It has plants located in Chaiyaphum and Songkhla provinces.

Outside Thailand, Mitr Phol has 7 sugar mills and 1 bagasse pulp paper mill in Guangxi province, China. In Lao PDR, the "Mitr Lao mill" is located in Xaybouli province. Mitr Phol has a joint venture with Tate & Lyle in the Nghe Anh mill in Vietnam, and is developing plantations in Cambodia.

Most recently in 2010, Mitr Phol acquired a stake in the Australian sugar producer Maryborough Sugar Factory (MSF).

The Vongkusolkit family's related businesses include Banpu Public Company Limited, which is listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand, and the Erawan Group which owns various prime properties throughout the Kingdom including the J.W. Marriott Bangkok hotel, Ploenchit Center building, Amarin Plaza and the Hyatt Erawan hotel.
