San Francisco International Airport . St. Veronica School was chosen by theFederal Aviation Administration (FAA) as one of the first schools in the nation to participate in the aircraft sound retrofit program, in order to reduce interior sound levels at the school fromaircraft overflights. The FAA in concert with San Francisco International Airport and the city of South Francisco retained Earth Metrics Inc.to conduct a detailedcomputer simulation analysis of alternative strategies for soundproofing certain areas of the school. The study recommended specific sound insulation techniques, and post-project sound monitoring indicated a significant reduction inclassroom sound levels.(Hogan, 1988)References
