- Robert Stopford
Sir Robert Wright Stopford, KCVO, CBE (
20 February 1901 -13 August 1976 ) was a British clergyman.Born in
Garston ,Liverpool . Educated at Coatham School inRedcar and Hertford College, Oxford, where he graduated with a Master of Arts. At Oxford, he obtained first classes in classical honour moderations (1922) and modern history (1924). He was subsequently an Honorary Fellow of Hertford College, Oxford, and a Fellow of King's College, London. He received further aDoctor of Divinity from theUniversity of London and aDoctor of Canon Law from theUniversity of Durham .Bishop Stopford's School at Enfield andBishop Stopford School inKettering are named after him. He was appointed KCVO in 1973, shortly before he retired asBishop of London Positions held
