János Kemény (author)

Baron Kemény János (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (USA), September 5, 1903 – Târgu Mureş, October 13, 1971) was a Hungarian writer, theater director, a dramatist, the founder of the Marosvécs/Brâncoveneşti Helikon community.

Lifetime

*His mother (the actress, Ida Mitchel), who's husband (Kemény István) died shortly after János born, could not afford to support all her 4 childs, and in 1904 emigrated to Transylvania, to her grandfather.
*In gymnasial years Kemény János studied in Cluj.
*On the autumn of 1921 started studies in Hochschule für Bodenkultur faculty, in Vienna.
*In 1923 he get married with Augusta Paton. They had 6 children's.
*In 1926 was organized a literary meeting with Aladár Kuncz in Marosvécs/Brâncoveneşti. Here was founded the Helikon community, which from 1928 published the "Erdélyi Helikon" titled literal magazine.
*In 1930 he was decorated for his autorship, with the "Corvin koszorú". [List of persons, who were decorated with the [http://www.akm.externet.hu/rendjel/adatok/tudos/nevsor.htm Corvin decoration] ] decoration.
*From 1931 he became the director for 10 years of the Hungarian theater "Thália" in Cluj.
*Between 1945-1952 he was between the founders of the Székely thatre in Târgu Mureş.
*Between 1954-1958 he was a manual worker, and after, a librarian in the "Art College" in Târgu Mureş.
*Later he worked for the "Új élet" titled magazine in Târgu Mureş.
*From 1957 to 1971, until his death, his writings appeared one after another, but he succeeded to finish only the first volume of his biography, which was planned to have multiple volumes.
