Langhus

Langhus is a village in the municipality of Ski in Norway with a population of about 13,000. For the most part it was built up after 1980.

Langhus is the name used of the areas Bøleråsen, Vevelstad, Sloratoppen, Ramstad and Langhus. The village took its form mostly because of the railroad. Langhus and Vevelstad Station are the nearest stations to Ski Station, which is close to a center between Oslo and Moss. In fact, the distance between Langhus and Vevelstad is the shortest railroad distance in Norway with 650 metres. The economical capital of Langhus is Langhussenteret, with Nille, Meny, The Zoo, a statue, Pizza Chef and a minibank. A cafe is the social gathering point of the villagers of Langhus. A gas station is located app. twenty meters north of Langhussenteret. The local church was opened in 1975, and built on the higher ground above Langhussenteret. The old high school, Vevelstad, is located near the church, but is now just a dentists office. An home for senior citizens was built in Langhus in 2000, near the lake Fosstjern.

A few well known musicians started in this area during the mid to late 1980's playing at the local practice room, including the infamous black metal band Mayhem, black metal artist Simen Hestnæs plus the electronica artist and producer Vemund Ally. Langhus was also home to the well known country artist Ottar "Bighand" Johanssen.

It is three primary school in Langhus (Bøleråsen Skole, Velvelstadåsen Skole and Langhus skole), and one Secondary School (Haugjordet Ungdomsskole)
