- 833A
The 833A is a
vacuum tube constructed for medium powerradio frequency transmitter applications. It is a High-mu powertriode intended for use as anRF power amplifier . It can also be used for audio amplification in avalve audio amplifier . [Frener, Michael. [http://www.stereophile.com/tubepoweramps/704wavac/ Wavac SH-833 monoblock power amplifier] in "Stereophile ", July 2004.] [Robinson, David. [http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue9/wavac833.htm Wavac HE-833 amplifiers - The King of SET!] in "Positive Feedback Online", Issue 9.]The unique design structure provides a robust base for this coffee can size Titan. The tube is supported solely by its two almost 3/8" diameter sized Cathode posts. The design is so radical that a new type of base needed to be created. The Grid and Anode posts are equally as substantial as the Cathode.
This is and amazing example of engineering and sculpture with the warm orange glow that can only be created in a near vacuum. A creation of an era that still holds it’s own in today’s cubical grid structured integrated circuit world.
These tubes are still being sought after today over 65 years after their introduction.
The 833A tube has a thoriated filament. It is a large tube of the type sometimes known as a "cookie jar" tube, [Rosenberg, Harvey. [http://www.meta-gizmo.com/Tri/Dancing/PATH2POW.html Pathways to Power] .] with the envelope nominally measuring 116.8 mm (4.60 in.) in diameter and 219.2 mm (8.63 in.)
It can also be used to construct a vacuum tube
Tesla coil . [Willis, Carl. [http://www.angelfire.com/electronic/cwillis/833acoil.html 833-A Vacuum Tube Tesla Coil] .]Notes
