KFUO (850 AM) is the nation's longest continually running religious radio station. Richard Kretzschmar, John Fritz and Dr. Walter A. Maier, who originated the famed Lutheran Hour broadcast, founded the AM station in 1924. Three years later, they moved the station to its permanent home on the Concordia Seminary campus in St. Louis, Mo. KFUO added an FM station "Classic 99" in 1948.

Today, KFUO's nationally-recognized and award-winning programs broadcast the "truth of God’s Word" on more than 500 stations throughout the United States. KFUO boasts a wide array of audio resources from worship services, to in-depth study of "God's Word". Smaller vignettes from nationally-renowned speakers like Dr.Paul Devantier's "By The Way", Mary Manz-Simon's "Front Porch Parenting" and Concordia Seminary President Dr. Dale Meyer's "The Meyer Minute". KFUO also carries Dr. James Dobson and Focus on the Family.

On March 18, 2008, KFUO's popular radio show "Issues Etc" was canceled from the station's program line-up. Both the host and producer were released from employment with KFUO 850 AM. According to the KFUO website, the decision to cancel the show was based on "programmatic and business reasons." Persons that did not accept this official reason held a demonstration requesting the truth about the decision in front of the LCMS world headquarters on April 14, 2008.
