Colin Linford was president of the Canadian Soccer Association until August 2007.[1]
Linford was a previous Ontario Soccer Association president and became president of the CSA in May 2006. He vowed then to make grand changes in the sport's oversight.[2]
He said the national soccer organization is dominated by provincial interests more interested in the their local associations and power, than a national scope.[1]
He also said the best idea would be to allow staff to make decisions, but that the board would resist such a move.[1]
Another reason given was the failure by the Board to confirm the contract of former Basketball Canada boss Fred Nykamp as CEO[2]
Linford claimed board members worried Nykamp's mandate would overcome their position and sway at the CSA.[2]
Linford said "If a youngster has the opportunity to play for another country ... I suggest they take it."[3]
Linford lives in Kitchener, Ontario.
