census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,023 people, 442 households, and 300 families residing in the city. Thepopulation density was 687.7 people per square mile (265.1/km²). There were 519 housing units at an average density of 348.9/sq mi (134.5/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 99.32% White, 0.10% Asian, and 0.59% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.There were 442 households out of which 24.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.5% were married couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.1% were non-families. 29.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.21 and the average family size was 2.73.
In the city the population was spread out with 20.1% under the age of 18, 6.7% from 18 to 24, 22.8% from 25 to 44, 21.9% from 45 to 64, and 28.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $35,104, and the median income for a family was $44,931. Males had a median income of $29,327 versus $21,250 for females. The
