waketheday is an indie rock band from Louisville, Kentucky, United States. The current members are Chris Jackson (vocals, guitar), Tyler Anderson (bass, backing vocals), Andy Meyers (drums, backing vocals), Brian 'Buv' Meyers (guitar), and Jeff Armstrong (guitar) who are all close friends that have gained attention from many label executives that now have the band on their radar. waketheday first gained regional recognition after winning a national battle of the bands, and even more recently being accepted as the only Indie/Rock band in Kentucky to be flown to Los Angeles to participate in the auditioning phase for the Fox Network Television Series, "The Next Great American Band" slated to air on October 19th, 2007. It is rumored that over 6,000 video submissions were sent in for the show, and only 60 bands received a call back, waketheday being one.

Band History

Originally a four-piece, the band lost former bassist, Mikey Likens, due to lack of interest in the evolving sound and left on good terms. Without delay, the band recruited Tyler Anderson, guitarist of Chris Jackson's high school side project, Kujo & The Kool-Aid Kids. Anderson began playing bass with waketheday as a temporary fill in position, later deciding to remain as the newest addition to the group.

Upon adding Tyler Anderson, waketheday sought to push their name and music into the local scene by playing local shows and working on new material that would later be recorded at TNT Recording Studios with Tim Haertel, engineer at the studio. In August 2006 the band would release their first recorded material as an LP "Reason For Leaving". The release show was held at Anderson's church, Okolona Christian Church [ [http://www.okolonacc.org] - Okolona Christian Church (retrieved September 19, 2007)] . The show drew in over 300 people and capped the rooms capacity as waketheday performed songs from the LP.

Not more than a few weeks after the LP release, the band would find themselves competing in a National Battle of the Bands at the venue Rocketown in Nashville, TN. The fans drove to Nashville, TN to support the band, as it did pay off when waketheday placed first and dubbed Grand Champion winner of the event. The win at Rocketown, voted on by the crowd and judges, produced many big awards for band members:

* They played for the public opening of Nashville’s $150 million venue, Schermerhorn Symphony Center, Ocotober 2006.
* They will be on a Rocketown compilation CD that will include two songs by 10 different bands.
* They recorded two singles at the famous Dark Horse Recording Studios in Nashville, TN with producer Geoffrey Piller. [ [http://www.southeastchristian.org/_libraryfiles/outlook/Wake%20the%20Day.pdf] - published January 4, 2007 (retrieved August 24, 2007] )

After playing numerous hometown shows, the band drew attention from Ichthus Festival booking agent, Andrew Baker. Andrew booked the band to perform on the Edge Stage at the annual Christian music festival in February 2006. The band performed alongside of This Beautiful Republic, Gwen Stacy, Inhale Exhale, and The Send.

After analyzing the bands musical aspirations, the four-piece decided it would be in their best interest to recruit another guitarist. Jeff Armstrong was the lead guitarist and driving force of, the now dis-assembled and reformed, 'Grace I Am'. Jeff Armstrong joined up with Wake The Day as the official fifth member in late March 2007.

Influences

waketheday'sfrontman and guitarist Chris Jackson draws many influences from Queen, Hall & Oats, Jeff Buckley, Damien Rice, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, and Herbie Hancock. Guitarist Buv cites Al Greene, The Eagles, Incubus, Eisley, 311, and Emery, while bassist Tyler collectively respects Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, U2 and Elton John. With regards paid to these heroins of music, the members obviously concocted their creative style elsewhere, as waketheday doesn't seem to draw any flavors from their respected predecessors.

Other projects

Currently the group is taking the remainder of 2007 to write and record new material for a full length they plan to release independently in 2008. [ [http://www.myspace.com/waketheday] - published September 12, 2007 (retrieved August 14, 2007)] The band is rumored to be talking with 1 of 3 prospective producers interested in working with the band, Steven Wilson - (Jonezetta, The Class of 98), Tony Alany - (My Favorite Highway, Ben Kweller), and Pete Thornton - (Paramore, The Academy Is)
