Godfrey was a medieval Bishop of Chichester. He may occasionally have been referred to as William.Fryde "Handbook of British Chronology" p. 238]

He was nominated to the office in 1088, and died 25 September 1088. Little is known of his background, except he had been a royal chaplain.Barlow, Frank, "William Rufus" p. 93-94] Barlow "William Rufus" p. 147] Barlow "William Rufus" p. 179] So little was known of him, that William of Malmesbury mistakenly calls him William instead of Godfrey, and had nothing else to say of him.Barlow "The English Church" p. 66 footnote 70] A papal absolution for all his sins was buried with him, [http://british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=34293 British History Online Bishops of Chichester] accessed on 20 October 2007] which had been inscribed on a lead cross and was found in the nineteenth century.Bartlett "England Under the Norman and Angevin Kings" p. 597] After his death, the see was vacant until 1090 or 1091.Barlow "The English Church" p. 68]
