Andres Guibert

Andres Guibert

Andres Guibert (born October 28, 1968 in Havana, Cuba) is a retired Cuban basketball player. In 1993 he defected from the Cuban delegation at the Centroamerican Games being held in Ponce, Puerto Rico.

He subsequently played in the NBA for the Minnesota Timberwolves (1993/94 and 1994/95 seasons, 22 games, 9.1 MPG, 2.7 PPG, 2.8 RPG). After that he played in Greece for Sporting BC (1996-97), Apollon Patras (1998-99), Near East Kaisariani (1999-00), Heraklion Crete (2000-01) and KAOD (2001-02).

He also played in Italy for Scavolini Pesaro (1997-98) and Benetton Treviso (2000-01) [ [http://195.56.77.208/player/?id=GUI-AND-68 Guibert history on the official Serie A site] ] and in Puerto Rico for Ponce Lions (2003-04).

In September 2008 Guibert became a naturalized United States citizen following the taking of his oath by federal judge Gustavo Gelpi.
