With the grounding of LANICA in 1979 and the onset of the
Somoza regime, a new airline was established; that airline was Aeronica. The airline served destinations in Central and South America. But the political unrest in the country and the civil war that developed brought an embargo from the United States and with it a shortage of parts for the 727s and hence soviet equipment was bought. Due to political and economic problems, Aeronica ceased operations at the end of 1991.Services
Aeronica operated domestic routes and international services to Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Mexico and the United States. Aeronica became Nicaragua's airline after the demise of LANICA (Lineas Aereas de Nicaragua) right before the Sandinista revolution of 1979.
