East Germantown is a town in Jackson Township, Wayne County, Indiana, United States. The population was 243 at the 2000 census.

Geography

East Germantown is located at coor dms|39|48|46|N|85|8|17|W|city (39.812803, -85.138020)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.1 square miles (0.3 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 243 people, 95 households, and 72 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,913.2 people per square mile (721.7/km²). There were 103 housing units at an average density of 810.9/sq mi (305.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 100.00% White. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.82% of the population.

There were 95 households out of which 37.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.1% were married couples living together, 9.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.2% were non-families. 23.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the town the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 26.7% from 45 to 64, and 11.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $30,714, and the median income for a family was $35,000. Males had a median income of $31,250 versus $19,063 for females. The per capita income for the town was $12,827. About 15.0% of families and 15.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.0% of those under the age of eighteen and 37.5% of those sixty five or over.
