Sharpsville is located at coor dms|40|22|44|N|86|5|12|W|city (40.378949, -86.086632)GR|1. According to the
United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 0.2square mile s (0.6km² ), all of it land.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 618 people, 232 households, and 179 families residing in the town. Thepopulation density was 2,795.4 people per square mile (1,084.6/km²). There were 243 housing units at an average density of 1,099.1/sq mi (426.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.54% White, 0.32% African American, 0.16% Asian, 0.32% Pacific Islander, 0.49% from other races, and 0.16% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.29% of the population.There were 232 households out of which 40.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.8% were non-families. 19.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the town the population was spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 6.6% from 18 to 24, 33.0% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.2 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $52,292, and the median income for a family was $58,750. Males had a median income of $46,389 versus $30,417 for females. The
per capita income for the town was $22,480. About 1.2% of families and 2.8% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 1.4% of those under age 18 and none of those age 65 or over.Education
Tri-Central High School is the only high school in Sharpsville and is located just outside the town. Tri-Central is considered one of the Class A basketball powerhouses in the
Hoosier state. Tri-Central is home of the 2003, 2004, and 2005 Class A Girls Basketball State Champions. In 2005, the Tri-Central boys basketball team was one of only 2 high schools in Indiana to have a perfect regular season (20-0). The following year in the 2006 Regional Championship, Tri-Central beat Lafayette Central Catholic in a monumental upset behind Grayson Flittner's 48 points. That 2006 Tri-Central team went on to become the 2006 State Runner-ups. Tri-Central High School is also the home of two Boys basketball players who led the State in scoring.
