Chanakia or Hanakia (Greek: Χανάκια), older forms:, -o -on(Greek: also with the second a accented is a Greek settlement located about 10 km northwest of Pyrgos, about 86 km (olf: 90 km) south-southwest of
Patras and about 13 km south ofAmaliada , . Chanakia is connected with the old GR-9/E55 (Patras - Pyrgos -Kyparissia ) at the old 90th km, the new one bypasses to the west and had been since the mid to late 20th century. Chanakia had a 2001 population of was 558 for the settlement. Chanakia is also in the municipal district of Alpochori and the municipality ofIardanos . It is one of several municipal districts in the prefecture where it is larger than the municipal district seat.Nearest places

Geography
Chanakia is between the plain of Pyrgos and the mountains area that covers the northwestern part, its ranges stretches from
Katakolo toFoloi . The farmlands are in the plain area, they are predominantly made up of groves, the remainder are forested with pines, firs, spruces and cypresses. Much of the area to the southeast is the plain.Information
Chanakia was established as a trade hub close to the main road to
Patra andPyrgos by residents from the nearby Alpochori, which remains to this day the seat of the municipal district. Gradually, it evolved as a mere autonomous settlement, especially because more and more people from the mountainous Alpochori built their homes in the flat Chanakia, in close proximity of their farms.Chanakia has approximately 10 km of paved roads and 15 to 20 km of gravel roads. Koryfi also has approximately 10 km of hydro lines as well as phone lines.
Houses were stone-built until the 1950s and did not surpass modern-style homes until the 1980s. It was linked with pavement in the 1980s. Most of the homes are abandoned today.
After
World War II and theGreek Civil War , much of the population left for larger towns and cities especially the nearbyPatras . The population remained steady since the mid to late 20th century.Economy
Its main production are fruits, vegetables, olives and cattle. The majority of the production are olives.
