Jan 15 1932 ,Batavia, Dutch East Indies ), is thepseudonym of Carel Jan Schneider, a Dutchforeign service diplomat andwriter . He lived and worked in New Guinea, New York, Bangkok, Brussels, Dhaka, Luanda and Tehran, all of which have served as locations for the novels and stories which he has published.His laconic style reminds one of the work of F. Scott Fitzgerald, and there is always an ironic perspective on his often tragic subject matter. "Teheran, een zwanezang", a love story set against the background of the Iranian Revolution, is often seen as his best
novel .For "Bougainville" he received the
