"Calceolaria amplexicaulis" is a perennial plant belonging to family Calceolariaceae and native to the Peruvian Andes.Botanica. The Illustrated AZ of over 10000 garden plants and how to cultivate them, pp. 166-167 Könemann, 2004. ISBN 3-8331-1253-0] The genus "Calceolaria" has been recently segregated from other members of the Scrophulariaceae, along with "Porodittia", and "Jovellana" into its own family.

"Calceolaria amplexicaulis" can grow to 1 meter (3 feet) of height, with a branching habit, and has soft cordate leaves. "Calceolaria amplexicaulis" flowers from spring to summer in its native habitat, with clusters of small (12 mm (0.5 in) diameter) yellow flowers.
