Brodner's illustration work and art journalism appear in publications such asThe Village Voice , Mother Jones, The Chronicle Review,The New York Times , Esquire, Time,Newsweek , Spy,Playboy , Premiere,Harper's ,The Los Angeles Times ,Rolling Stone ,The Nation , andThe New Yorker .Brodner attended
Cooper Union , in New York City and graduated in 1976 with aBachelor of Fine Arts Degree. Brodner went on to work briefly for the "Hudson Dispatch" in Hudson County, NJ after leaving college. He then self-published the New York Illustrated News between 1979 and 1982. As an art-journalist, Brodner has covered seven national political conventions for Esquire, The Progressive, The Village Voice and others. In an article, "Plowed Under", Broder conducted a series of portraits and interviews with hard-hit farm families in the Midwest, which ran in the May 1987 issue of The Progressive. "Shots From Guns", Brodner's documentary about the Colt Firearms strike in Hartford, Connecticut appeared in Northeast Magazine in 1989. For The New Yorker, Brodner covered Oliver North and the 1994 Virginia Senate race as well as the the
Million Man March (1995), thePat Buchanan presidential campaign of 1996, and an advance story on the Democratic Convention in Chicago, 1996.
