The Christa McAuliffe Planetarium is a planetarium in Concord, New Hampshire named in memory of Christa McAuliffe, the teacher who died in the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. The planetarium focuses on providing astronomy and air science learning, while also preserving the memory of Christa McAuliffe.
A two-story addition to the planetarium, scheduled for completion in January 2009, will create the new McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center (MSDC), named in honor of Christa McAuliffe, the first teacher in space, and Alan Shepard, the first American in space, both New Hampshire citizens. The MSDC will offer a Redstone rocket, interactive exhibits in astronomy and Earth and space sciences, a planetarium theater, a gift shop, and the Cosmic Café, as well as an aeronautics wing, which will include a flight school and a rooftop observatory.
